Elder Substance Abuse and Misuse: The scope of one of our more serious issues in Vermont and best practices for help.

This events feature speaker will be Stephen Bartels, MD, MS, presenting on Older Adult Substance Abuse and Medication Misuse with Co-occurring Disorders. Dr. Bartels is a nationally recognized expert in the field of geriatric psychiatry and substance abuse.

Dr. Bartels is a professor of Geriatrics, Psychiatry, Community and Family Medicine, and Health Policy at the Dartmouth Medical School. He is also the Director of the Dartmouth Center for Health and Aging where he oversees the Dartmouth Center for Aging Research, the New England Geriatric Center, and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Aging Resource Center. He leads a health services research group and has published over 250 articles, scientific abstracts, and book chapters in these fields of interest. Dr. Bartels is also a co-author of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Among Older Americans: the State of the Knowledge and Future Directions.
