This presentation will focus on the biological and psychological factors that affect the course of addiction. Participants will develop an understanding of how opioid use creates changes in the brain and how these changes drive behavior and the compulsion to continue to use opiates despite negative consequences. We will also discuss how other psychological, social, and developmental factors increase vulnerability to addiction and influence the course of this chronic illness.
